Share the Music Day, January 21

JMS will share music out and around Quincy. We believe music is a gift we receive and give away, so here is a chance to give the gift! See your teacher for the repertoire list.

Quincy Symphony Orchestra, February 10

Save this date! River Strings students will be performing at intermission in the lobby, five of those students will be performing with the symphony orchestra as members of the youth symphony, and two faculty members will perform as well. Kids get in free to these concerts.

All School Concert, March 11

All JMS students will be involved in this concert and the teachers are working very hard to put the details together for this event. The concert will be at 7:00 p.m. at First Union Congregational Church, and dress rehearsals will be scheduled for later afternoon.

JMS Family News

Please pray for the family of cello student Leo Klingner. His dad Greg has been diagnosed with an illness and the family is going through some very difficult days. We hope Leo will be able to return to cello lessons soon, and that his Dad will have a full recovery.

Henri and Priscilla Mitchell will be moving sometime this semester. Nadine is holding down the fort here while housing can be found in Cedar Rapids. We will miss you so much!

Sarah Boren’s husband has been in the hospital for the last week, part of that time in St. Louis. We are grateful for your prayers and concern for them.

Reminders that will make your life easier!

Re-check the school calendar that was given to you in August. Add dates to your calendar.

Visit the website calendar when you are unsure of school schedule and events.

Stay in communication with your teacher about changes, misses, and concerns you have.

Need the recording of your pieces to play slower? Download the app “Anytune Pro Plus” and access all itunes songs, adjust the speed as desired.

100 Day Club Party!

It is not too late to start the 100 Day Club! Start now, and you can earn a spot at the party on May 20, where local artist Jamie Green will be there to draw your caricature, and other fun activities and special food will be provided. You won’t want to miss this, the best reward yet!

100 days of practice sets a pattern for regular practice and takes the “discussion” of whether to practice out of your day. Be sure to let your teacher know when you have completed this.

Summer Institutes

Planning starts now! Go the the website of Suzuki Association of the Americas to see the dates and locations for this summer, and start planning how your family will attend. We are hoping to offer two scholarships again this year. Applications for the scholarships will be available soon. Every one of our JMS faculty have been to Summer Institutes and can tell you all about it!
